Windows does a great job, but I feel that Macintosh is a bit less fussy when running- it's nice to have something just work. I can do anything that my friend can with his tens-of-thousands dollars PT rig. As I said in my other post, I spent $400 on a laptop, and then $65 on Reaper and I have maybe $2000 invested on plug-ins, not to mention all of the freeware plug-ins. Reaper is going to change all of that, and Windows has finally given us a solid OS. It USED to be true that yes, Macs were more solid for recording, their OS's were more stable and thus everyone used them, the software companies catered to them, etc. He's spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years keeping his system up to date, just in software. Every time PT upgrades, he has to also pay to get the upgraded versions of half of his plug-ins, if the plug-in company even makes a newer version. The studio I often rent has a full up-to-date PT rig, and I often have to listen to the owner cry and bitch because of it's proprietary license bullshit (which they finally dropped with version 9). Macs are primarily popular because Pro Tools was the first software that was commonly used/set as an industry standard, and it was designed to run on a Mac.
